Dr Kayode Muritala Salawu is a pharmacist, associate professor, and head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Drug Development at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria (since August 2023). His academic and research work is rooted in natural product science, with a focus on ethnopharmacology, isolation of bioactive compounds, phytomedicine, antimicrobial resistance, and anticancer drug discovery from medicinal plants.

He has contributed to the scientific community through several peer-reviewed publications and presentations at both national and international forums. His work reflects a strong commitment to advancing research that bridges traditional knowledge and modern biomedical science.

Dr Salawu is particularly passionate about the evidence-based integration of traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare systems. He is actively engaged in mentoring students and early-career researchers, as well as in curriculum development and professional training.

As Head of Department, he provides strategic leadership to foster academic excellence, strengthen research capacity, and promote community and policy engagement. His efforts are directed toward enhancing health literacy and supporting evidence-informed decision-making within and beyond the academic environment.
