Bilqis Abiola LAWAL, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Drug Development, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria with more than a decade of university teaching, research, and administrative experience. Currently, she is the Deputy Director, the Centre for International Education, University of Ilorin, as well as the Desk Officer for KU8+ consortium (Consortium of Universities in Kwara State) and international coordinator of the U6+ Consortium (Consortium of some African Universities). She has previously served as Level adviser, Examination officer, Departmental coordinator, and the Sub dean of the Faculty. As a researcher, her area of specialization is focused on use of medicinal plants for therapeutic purposes, especially, on neurodegenerative diseases. Her main areas of research focus include ethnomedicine, phytochemistry, bioactivity of medicinal plants, plant metabolomics and herbal medicine. However, she is currently developing a keen interest in plant functional genomics with a focus on improving secondary metabolites that can conquer neurodegenerative conditions, with focus on Alzheimer’s Disease. She has to her credit over twenty publications in reputable outlets covering journals, edited conference proceedings and chapters in books.   She has been a recipient of several awards in the course of her research; they include the University of Ilorin Staff Development Award, 2011 and 2015; U6 Consortium Exchange Programme between University of Ilorin and Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), South Africa 2017; and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – The World Academy of Science (CSIR-TWAS) Postgraduate Fellowship Award at IICT, Hyderabad (India), 2018. She is a member of Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy (NSP), National Association of Pharmacist in Academia (NAPA), Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and International Society of Neurochemistry (ISN).

Roles and Responsibilities of the Deputy Director

The Deputy Director, Centre for International Education (CIE), University of Ilorin roles are to:

  • Play a pivotal role in enhancing global engagement, promoting international partnerships, and ensuring the effective
  • Support the Director in the strategic planning by contributing to the development of policy documents, reports, proposals, and institutional agreements,
  • Facilitate the development, review, and implementation of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and other international agreements and
  • Liaise with partner institutions, embassies, consulates, and relevant government agencies on international education matters.
  • Supervise the implementation of student and staff exchange programs, international training, and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Represent the Centre at internal and external meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with partner institutions and stakeholders.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of international programs and partnerships.
  • Prepare periodic reports, activity summaries, and updates on international engagements for internal and external use.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all international activities under the Centre.
  • Mentor and supervise CIE staff and interns in executing international programs.
  • Organize training and workshops to build institutional capacity for internationalization.
  • Assist in identifying funding opportunities and coordinating grant applications related to international education.
